Zernez / Pra da Punt
Terminus for all cars...

Deadwood feeding your imagination
Mushroom Medley
Cloudy view of Zernez
Bellavista Hut 2036m amsl
Completely untouched Val Cluozza (except for the hiking paths and the Chamanna Cluozza hut)
Beautiful riverbed of Cluozza river
One path eroded, another one was created ...
Looking down towards river Spöl valley with the main road to Val Müstair
Ova da Cluozza - amazing riverbed, totally untouched
Nature at work
Nightstop - the only possibility deep inside the N.P. ! Hiking time approx 3-3.5h.
A little further up, another bridge crossing the river

The classic - this is how most of the sleeping rooms in Swiss Alpine huts look like!
(Expectedly) foggy morning at the hut. Our group is the last to leave - at 08:15 a.m.!
We're hiking up a west faced ascent and enjoy the sunlit views.
Almost halfway up to Fuorcla Murter
View towards Valletta valley and Piz Quattervals peak (left in the backdrop)
Impressive rock formations opposite!
Almost halfway up to Fuorcla Murter
Soon we reach the sunny meadows above 2300m amsl.
Perfect terrain for marmots!
Very relaxed folks, they're not moving one inch!
We've seen many of them - and all "in good shape", getting ready for the hibernation!
Maybe 8m/25ft away, not scared at all!
Val Sassa to the west. The valley bottom is actually formed by an active rock glacier.
Yay we did it! Quite a steep but nice ascent to Fuorcla Murter
Now it's time for some more wildlife shots... These are likely red deer (cervus elaphus)
Here's a herd of chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra)
And... here's the king of the air... a bearded vulture patrolling its habitat in Val Spöl
Gypaetus barbatus can be easily distinguished by their sheer size, wingtips, tail shape and, if it really comes close - by the color of its eyes! Impressive!
The valley circling the ridge in the right back is Italy: Val del Gallo with the Lago di Livigno reservoir at its bottom.
The many peaks north of river Spöl valley (the river is dammed)
Dead tree in front of the peaks Piz Laschadurella, Ftur & Sampuoir [I looked these up ;) ]
Steep descend to the river. Or almost...
Bridge over Spöl river
The bridge is constructed approx. 50m above the gorge. Impressive stuff!
And beautiful views downstream! Canada, or...?
...Switzerland! Many trailheads are served by public transport, and quite often it'll be one of the many post bus lines - a traditional ending to many hiking trips :-)
