Iceland is just too amazing and one trip cannot be enough. We decided that we could well need another relaxing visit to the Blue Lagoon – the flights were booked in no time. February&Iceland=Aurora Borealis – and yes we were lucky to have a wonderful night with some impressive displays. All the rest was again amazing too, from the snowstorm in the middle of nowhere right to the city stroll in Reykjavik. Me like!
Welcome to Iceland – the island marking the westernmost point of Europe. Geologically, that is. Because Iceland is where the american and the european plate meet and it is entirely of volcanic nature. There are 4 parts and I hope you enjoy this 1st as well as all the other parts.
Starting from just outside Reykjavik, following the Route #1 towards Egilsstaðir, along the south coast of Iceland.
A visit to Egilsstaðir and the East Fjords, fighting a snow storm, visiting the most beautiful spots ‚round Myvatn and eventually hitting ground in Iceland’s second largest town, Akureyri.
Departing Akureyri, we move further west, along very remote fjords and capes, spotting wildlife and waterfalls and eventually stopping at the outermost point of Snæfellsnes peninsula. Amazing landscapes all over, one could not get enough of it!
